Responses to Systemic Racism

Many people may be wondering what we can do as individuals and as a church to respond to the concerns about systemic racism currently sweeping around the world.

The United Church of Canada, in partnership with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada and the Anglican Church of Canada, has produced a letter encouraging individuals and congregations to consider the following by way of response:

  1. Reach out to a friend of a different race; listen to their story and how current events are impacting them.
  2. Conscientiously and prayerfully consider joining public expressions of solidarity towards seeking justice against racism.
  3. Read books and other materials on racism in the Canadian context, its impacts and the reality of white privilege.
  4. Research critical elements of the legacies of other races.
  5. Engage with the artistic and cultural production of people of other races with a commitment to learn the history and context within these expressions.

Grace Services to Remain On-line

Announcement on the Return to Services

At the May meetings of the Grace Worship Committee and the Official Board, it was decided that:

– Grace will continue to provide Worship Services online until at least early September, with no plans for any services, (including weddings and memorials) or programs until that time.

-The church building will continue to be closed to small group meetings as well, with only the recording of the weekly service approved, which requires social distancing and sanitizing of the area after each session.

– In mid-August the Board will consider the policies of Local, Provincial and Federal Health Agencies as well as recommendations from the leadership of the United Church of Canada and determine if it is appropriate for Grace to open in September.

– If, at that time, there continue to be requirements for social distancing and other restrictions, it is unlikely that Grace will open our doors for worship and will continue providing services online.  At that time, we will also assess if small groups can meet in the building.

-It is the priority of the Official Board of Grace to consider the safety and health of the members of the Congregation, all ages and vulnerabilities, before risking group worship, even with social distancing and other procedures that may be acceptable to some organizations.  We hope that all will share the Board’s concern and will continue to view and participate in our Online Worship services and support Grace with whatever resources you have until COVID-19 is no longer a viable threat.

Your congregation plays a key role in spiritual, social, mental, emotional, and physical health.

This is going to be a challenging time as we all work hard to keep everyone connected in these physically isolating times. Although the church building is closed, we are still paying for staff and utilities, while user group and fundraiser income is at a temporary standstill.

In the absence of weekly in-person worship, please consider making your offering through post-dated cheques mailed to or dropped off the church, or through

It was also decided that the Church itself will be closed with access only for staff or by appointment with the Office Administrator.
